No Tax Increase Expected in Ford City

Council Vice-President Tyson Klukan said street lighting and sewer line repairs are important considerations in the 2018 Ford City Borough budget.

FORD CITY - Ford City Borough Council got its first look at the 2018 budget last night.

Copies was handed out to council members, but Council President Carol Fenyes said there is more work to do.

“This is not the final budget I am presenting because it is still $25,000 out of balance.”

Fenyes said the proposed budget does not include a tax increase. It also does not factor an expected $102,000 payment from the Commonwealth in Liquid Fuels allocation.

Council Vice-President Tyson Klukan brought up the need to replace street lights in order to save money.

“There’s going to be at least a 30% savings. Our contract ongoing (through 2019).”

Klukan said the Borough is currently paying approximately $62,000 in electric costs for street lighting.

Klukan also serves with Councilmen Marc Mantini and Ray Klukan on the Public Works committee. He said the committee wants to see several projects completed next year if Council approves the funding.

“We put in for alley reconstruction behind the C.U. (Club), and behind the day care centers between 6th and 7th avenues. We have to look at our infrastructure plan with (Borough Engineer) Ed Schmitt because they were working on a storm water plan. They were GIS mapping. We do actually have some problems underneath our ground. What level? We don’t know yet. They are finalizing that plan. That plan could actually take part of the road rehabilitation projects for next year.”

Klukan said he wanted to coordinate repairing underground storm lines so paving projects were not done before repairs were completed.

Fenyes, Ray Klukan, and Beth Bowser serve on the Finance Committee. Council is expected to vote on the tentative budget at their November 13th public meeting.
