Armstrong Will Go For a Senior Night Win

by Jake DeLuca

The Armstrong River Hawks (4-4) varsity football team will look to bounce back after their tough loss to Penn-Trafford last week as Armstrong hosts the 1-7 Connellsville Falcons who are in search of their first section win of the year (0-6).

The River Hawks will have a favorable match-up in this game. This season, the Falcons have allowed a little over 45 points per game while scoring just under 11 points per game this season.

The largest cause to Connellsville’s defensive struggles has been their rush defense, which Armstrong will look to take advantage of. Coming into this game Armstrong is averaging just under 170 yards per game and have scored 13 of their 23 touchdown’s this season on the ground.

Armstrong Head Coach Frank Fabian said the keys to getting the win this week is rush well and get into the Falcons back-field.

“We have to run the football, I think teams have exploited them running the football and that’s going to be no different for us. We want to run the football and get ahead of the sticks. Defensively we want to play in their backfield. When teams do that, it’s given (Connellsville) some trouble,” Fabian said.

This game will have some added significance with Senior Night being Friday and the potential of this match-up being the final game being played on David “Red” Ullom Field before the River Hawks move to their new on campus stadium.

Kick-off is set for 7:00 PM at David “Red” Ullom Field with Senior Night festivities beginning at 6:30 PM.

If you’re unable to get to the field, you can follow all the action, including the Senior Night festivities on WTYM 1380 AM, WTYMradio.com, and the free WTYM mobile app starting at 6:30 PM.
