West Shamokin Bounces Back Big With Win Over Saltsburg

After getting shut out for the first time in over three years last week, the West Shamokin Wolves (4-3) varsity football team got a big 44-21 win over Saltsburg.

The Wolves took the lead in the first quarter - jumping out to an 8-0 lead and they never looked back.

West Shamokin would go on to add another 14 points in the second quarter to take a 22-15 point lead into the half.

The Wolves defense stepped it up in the second half, allowing just 6 points over the final two quarters while their offense kept producing points - matching their first half score to win 44-21.

West Shamokin’s rushing attack was something else in this game. The Wolves combined on the day for 369 yards on 44 carries including Jacob Szul’s 13 rushes for 160 yards, Dan Goldstrohm’s 11 carries for 70 yards and 3 TD’s, Brendan Mondi’s 8 for 53 and a score.

The Wolves QB Tyler Lightcap had a solid performance himself, passing for 74 yards on 5/8 passing - he also finished with 19 yards rushing and a touchdown on the ground.

West Shamokin will be back at home against one of the top teams in the conference, Homer Center (6-1) who are coming off their first loss of the season. Kick-off is set for 7:00 PM at West Shamokin’s Jack E. Boyer Field.
