OBIT: Ruth Marie McVay (Kittanning)

Ruth Marie McVay, 105, of Kittanning Township, died Wednesday, October 4, 2017 at the home of her daughter, Doris Cogley. She was born April 9, 1912, in Chicora, PA to the late John and Roxie (Harkleroad) Stubrich. She married George P. McVay on October 25, 1933 and was married 66 years until his death on January 1, 2000. She was the oldest member of Christ Rupp Lutheran Church in Kittanning Township, where she was very active all her life. She taught the Adult Sunday School Class for over 50 years, and was a member of the women’s group and other organizations of the church.

Survivors include her daughters, Doris Cogley, and Ruth (Donald) McIntyre, both of Kittanning Township; 7 grandchildren, Robert (Joy) Everhart, of Worthington, Eugene (Brenda) Everhart, Donald (Theresa) Everhart, Diana (Kevin) Klingensmith, Barbara (Richard) Shaffer, Brian (Donna) McIntyre, all of Kittanning Township, and Deidra Mutschler, of Waterford, PA; 16 great-grandchildren, and 15 great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband George P. McVay; daughter, Marie Everhart; brothers, Ray, Roy, Homer, Ralph, and George Stubrich; sisters, Hazel Clark, Ivy Graham, Alice Griffith, and Alma Stubrich; and sons-in- law, Robert E. Everhart and Thomas H. Cogley.

Friends will be received from 2-4 and 7-9 P.M. on Thursday, October 5, 2017, at the Snyder-Crissman Funeral Home, 200 South McKean Street, Kittanning. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, October 6, 2017 at the Christ Rupp Lutheran Church, 228 Rupp Church Road, Kittanning, with an additional hour of viewing at 10:00 A.M. at the church. Burial will be in the Christ Rupp Lutheran Church Cemetery. In Lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Ruth’s memory to the Capital Improvement Fund of Christ Rupp Lutheran Church.
