The Armstrong River Hawks (2-3) varsity football team is coming off of their third straight loss, all of which were conference games - this week they will look to bounce back against another conference opponent in the Plum Mustangs (2-3).
This week will be homecoming for the River Hawks, so before the game the homecoming court will be announced and their bios will be read before the game begins. The crowning will take place at halftime.
With this week being such a big game for Armstrong -and with their Head Coach Frank Fabian saying that this is the healthiest they’ve looked in a while, it should be a big night.
The River Hawks will come in with the same offensive line combination for the second straight week - a first this season.
Since the River Hawks have had to deal with a list of injuries this year, especially offensively, they have had to take multiple approaches each game to be productive. Because of their variety, Armstrong Head Coach says they’re kind of like a “Swiss Army knife” with their versatility.
Last week Armstrong found a lot of success in their single wing and triple option plays. Against Franklin Regional, the River Hawks stable of runners combined for 258 yards with Dawson Porter starting to show signs of being 100% again posting a team high 94 rushing yards. Tanner Stivason dominated the inside carries and goal line for Armstrong scoring three touchdowns in last weeks loss.
Plum is coming into this game off of a loss, but they will be a short handed on the offensive line with two injuries.
On the year, the Mustangs have been inconsistent with every other week producing a win, loss, and repeat. Plum will come into this game averaging 11 points per game while allowing an average of 27 points per game. The Mustangs have also been shut-out twice this season.
The Mustangs also average just 37 pass yards per game and prefer to run the ball more with 144 rushing yards per game.
Kick-off is set for 7:00 PM with homecoming introductions beginning prior to the game.
