Ford City Water Usage Back to Normal

FORD CITY - Restrictions have been lifted to water usage in the Borough.

A water main break on Saturday morning in Ford City resulted in a notice to conserve water throughout the day. A six-inch line near KPM had a ten-foot crack in it, as Borough Manager Michael Greenlee explained:

“This line was actually hard to find because there were no leaks that were showing up above ground. We had to systematically go through town and lift up manhole covers to see where the water was flowing from. We made it down to the river side, and saw there was a bunch of water coming out the 24-inch outflow. We located the leak in the line over there. Once we found it, we were able to isolate it, around 6PM on Saturday.”

Water usage was restricted to just bathing, cooking, and drinking. Residents were ordered to not use water to wash vehicles, water lawns and gardens, filling pools, or in cleaning sidewalks or driveways.

Greenlee said that although water levels in the reservoir were lowered because of the leak, the water plant was able to recover in a short period of time. Â

“We’re able to make around 60,000 gallons of water per hour. We were able to make (up the loss) relatively quickly,” he said.

Greenlee said Ford City Borough residents can continue to use water normally today.
