Kittanning Opens Jefferson Street to Two-Way Traffic

The temperature was 55 degrees on Thursday, February 23. It was shortly before 9AM as workers took “road closed” signs to South Jefferson and Jacob streets, closing Jefferson. A small street sweeper brushed the middle of the street followed by a worker blowing away the sand and pebbles. The street surface was now prepared for the painting truck to lay down a double yellow line down the middle of the roadway just before 10AM.

Crews spent several hours removing old traffic signal masts and energizing new traffic signals.

It would be after 1PM before the street was reopened and two-way traffic began.

Kittanning Police remind motorists that parking on Jefferson Street must be in the direction of travel. Also there are designated loading/unloading zones. On North Jefferson, the zone is located between the HAVIN 2nd Chance Shop and Family Dollar. On South Jefferson, the zone is located in front of the Men’s Club. Police warn that double-parking on the street is prohibited.

It’s about time. We do not need any one-way streets here. There are a very few exceptions, though. Alleys are one.
