After a back and forth three quarters, the West Shamokin Wolves girls varsity basketball team was able to pull ahead in the fourth, and walk out of the Kovalchick Convention and Athletic Complex as the Heritage Conference Champions.
This season the Wolves have only lost 2 games by a combined 2 points - the Wolves got their revenge on Armstrong and Friday was their chance to make things even with Homer-Center.
West Shamokin jumped out to an early 11-8 lead in the first quarter, but the Wildcats would end up taking the lead before half-time. Heading into the locker room at the half, Homer-Center lead 17-15.
In the second half the Wolves and the crowd really came alive and by the fourth quarter, West Shamokin was ready to take over.
In the fourth quarter the Wolves defense clamped down on the Wildcats, holding them scoreless for the first 4:00 of the final quarter.
The Wolves would walk out of the KCAC 42-32 winners, an amazing feeling according to West Shamokin’s Olivia Fusaro and Andrea Orlosky.
“It was our biggest goal coming into the season. From day one, it was get to the KCAC and take it all the way and now that we’re here and we accomplished that, it’s absolutely amazing,” Andrea said.
Orlosky finished with 13 points, 8 rebounds, 9 steals, and 5 assists while Fusaro added 11 points. The Wolves will have the next two weeks to prepare for the Division 6 playoffs.
