West Shamokin Comes Back in the 4th to Improve to 2-2
The West Shamokin Wolves earned their first win last week against Purchase Line 28-14 and this week the Wolves kept up their winning ways against the United High School Lions.
West Shamokin was able to strike first, but their lead didn’t last long as the Lions were able to score three unanswered touchdowns all by their freshman QB Kyle Silk.
When the fourth quarter came along though the Wolves were ready to prove they were the better team. West Shamokin would end up tying the game 18-18 on a Devin Fairman completion to Denten Stubrich in the end-zone, but the Wolves weren’t done there.
Head Coach Jon McCullough decided to go for two and gave the ball to Stubrich on a sweep play which they were able to convert for two points and take the lead 20-18.
The Wolves rushing attack was in full swing as Jacob Szul was able to break open a 96 yard touchdown run in the first half and finished the game with 143 yards and 2 TDs. Denten Stubrich added 43 yards along with a rushing TD and receiving TD.
After the game Denten and Jacob stopped by for a quick interview.
Sophomore fullback Dan Goldstrohm was able to pick up good yardage for a third week in a row putting up 85 yards.
Wolves Head Coach Jon McCullough was a happy man after the victory, he was very proud of how his team was able to fight back in the fourth as I got to speak to him after the game.
The Wolves will host the Marion Center Stingers next Friday with kickoff set for 7:00 PM.
