During a public meeting at Ford City Borough, Council, the Mayor Jeff Cogley, and Police Chief Roger Wright gave honor to one specific resident of Ford City.

Sandy Hutchison spent several years volunteering as a part-time secretary at the Ford City Police Department. Last night, she was awarded a plaque and publicly thanked for her service.

Mayor Cogley began by offering his gratitude.

“I would like to show a little of our appreciation to a woman who has given Ford City and its residents volunteer time. For many years, she would come into the police department and help out with secretarial work and permit parking.”

Chief Wright said that Hutchison’s influence was important.

“We appreciate her service. She has volunteered a lot of hours to Ford City Police Department and the borough residents. She has done things for free that most people don’t want to do. We appreciate everything she has done for us. She has made our lives as police officers a lot easier.”

Hutchison was grateful for the opportunity to serve.

“I just hope that I opened the door for a secretary. I enjoyed it and I sure met a lot of nice people, and I’ve learned a lot. So it was my pleasure.”

Chief Wright said she indeed pave the way for a new paid part-time secretary - a newly created position this year in the police department.

“She has shown Council that we do need a secretary, whether it be a paid secretary or a volunteer secretary.”

Hutchison was working three days per week, approximately five hours per day. Council voted in the May 2016 meeting to hire former Leader-Times newspaper reporter Sarah Hepfl as a paid secretary. Hepfl works 25 hours per week and is paid $10.25 per hour.
