More than 80 students from fifth- and sixth-grade Elderton Elementary students took part in the school’s annual Career Day yesterday morning.
PTA Career Day Coordinator Cindy Smeltzer said volunteers try to organize several different career presenters each Spring to introduce students to different careers – including emergency units, bankers and IT professionals. She said organizers began contacting officials months in advance.
The student participants included Smeltzer’s sixth-grade daughter, Joelle – who wants to grow up to be a surgeon.
Of the 20 professional presenters, it was Armstrong County Sheriff Deputy Theresa Gipson’s first exclusive event with K-9 Blak. Deputy Gipson said students loved meeting Blak.
Ford City Ambulance EMT Samantha Sharp has attended several elementary career events. Sharp and Manager Dave Dunmire gave students a hands-on demonstration of emergency equipment and explained different medicine.
