OBIT: Helen Frances Omasta (Shelocta)

Helen Frances Omasta, 89, of Shelocta, PA, passed away Thursday, December 31, 2015 at ACMH Hospital.

She was born January 27, 1926 in Vandergrift, PA, the daughter of William E. and Nellie (Couch) Wissinger.

Helen was a member of the United Church of Christ in South Bend, and also a member of the Eastern Star of Vandergrift. During WWII, she received a Registered Nurse degree through the U.S. Army Cadet Nurse Corps at Presbyterian University School of Nursing. Helen was extremely dedicated to her chosen profession of nursing, touching many lives and helping many people during her long career. She served as a staff nurse during the entire construction of the Keystone Power Generating Station. In 1993, she retired from the Armstrong County Memorial Hospital nursing staff. After her retirement, she enjoyed spending time with her family, reading, and performing volunteer work at the Apollo Free Library. Helen was considered the neighborhood nurse to her entire community. She raised three daughters as a single parent and will best be remembered as a devoted and caring mother and grandmother.

Her memory will be cherished by her loving husband of 43 years, Lawrence E. Omasta whom she married June 9, 1972; three daughters, Sally Weaver and husband, John of Shelocta, Pamela Adams and husband, David of Kittanning, and Deborah Blystone and husband, Alan of Shelocta; granddaughters, Kristin Phillipine and husband, Matt, and Holly Thall and husband, Greg; great-granddaughters, Emily and Natalie Thall, and Capri Phillipine; and special long-time friends, Jean Speer and Rose Cigola.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Friends will be received from 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM on Sunday, January 3, 2016 at Clark Chapel of the Bauer Funeral Home, 238 S. Main Street, Elderton.

Additional visitation will be held from 10 AM until the time of funeral services at 11 AM on Monday, January 4, 2016, at the funeral home with the Rev. Melvern McRoberts officiating.

Burial will be in South Bend Cemetery, Shelocta, Pennsylvania.
