County Human Services Might Receive Emergency Funding

The Pennsylvania House of Representatives yesterday voted 117-83 for an emergency funding bill aimed at getting state funds to agencies, schools and students, House Republican leaders wrote in a news release.

The legislation already passed the Senate last week, and if signed by Governor Tom Wolf, would distribute $11.2 billion in state funds needed by human service agencies throughout the state - including in Armstrong child welfare agencies, homeless shelters and food pantries.

“Taxes are being collected, agencies and schools need their funding, and it is our job to get them their funding,” Appropriations Committee Chairman Bill Adolph
(R-Delaware County) said. “We have an emergency funding bill here to get necessary dollars to help school kids, seniors and others who need a hand. We need to help them. It is that simple.”

The emergency funding bill package provides $11.2 billion in state funds and $24 billion in federal funds.

The emergency funding bill is the latest effort by the House to keep core government functions open and operating.

The General Assembly passed a balanced budget on June 30, but it was vetoed in its entirety by the governor.

The emergency funding bill now heads to the governor, who alone will make the decision to release the emergency funds for the most vulnerable.

I get so burned up when I hear that schools might close and all the others who are hurting because there is no budget in Pa. We pay these reps to do a job and they are letting the people they represent down. I don’t think they should get paid until they get a budget. I think both sides are to blame. This goes for the people who represent us in Washington also. They all need to get off their high horse and do what they were elected to do and quit the bi-partisan fighting. When I hear that the government might shut down, my blood boils.
