OBIT: Jack L. Mechling (Cowanshannock Township)

Jack L. Mechling, 78, of Cowanshannock Township, died Sunday, December 12, 2010 at the VNA Inpatient Hospice in Butler surrounded by his loving family.

He was born on September 5, 1932 in Rayburn Township to Lawson and Elsie (Kunselman) Mechling.

Jack was a retired union brick layer (Gold member of 59 years). He was a Sergeant in the U.S. Army serving in Korea during the Korean conflict.

He was of the Lutheran faith. He volunteered with the Armstrong County Mounted Posse in the 1970s and was a member of the American Legion. He collected arrowheads, enjoyed hunting, fishing, reading, crossword puzzles, gardening, and loved family get-togethers.

Jack is survived by his wife of 54 years Violet (Sell) Mechling whom he married on July 14, 1956; three daughters: Kimberly (Harry) Elkin of Kittanning, Jacklynn Pelligreno of Kittanning, and Tina (John) Leinweber of Kittanning; two sons: Brian (Cindy) Mechling of Kittanning and Todd Mechling of Kittanning; grandchildren: Shaun, Jennifer, Ryan, Ashley, Kate, Nicole, Tara, and Danielle; and great-grandchildren: Austin, Kierra, Russell, Kaitlyn, Kailey, Dominic, and Gracie.

He is also survived by four sisters: Betty, Barbara, Gale, and Carol; and two brothers: James and Kenneth.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son David L. Mechling; brother Daniel Gary Mechling; and sister Delores Salsgiver.

Friends and family will be received from 2-4 and 7-9 Tuesday, December 14, 2010 at the Snyder-Crissman Funeral Home in Kittanning, where a funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 11AM with the Reverend John Kuert officiating.

Interment will take place in the Salem (Hills) Church Cemetery.
