The Armstrong River Hawks Middle School (MS) (8-1-1) team has now won 8-straight games to open the season and on Friday night the defeated their toughest opponent in the formerly undefeated Greensburg Central Catholic (7-1-1) by a final score of 6-4.

Prior to this match-up, Armstrong has out scored their opponents by a margin of 60-2, but at the end of the first period Armstrong found themselves in a 2-2 stalemate.

Armstrong’s Ethan Prugh opened the second period with his third goal of the night - notching himself a hat trick.

The River Hawks would close out the game by scoring three third period goals to cement the 6-4 victory.

After the game, Armstrong’s Ethan Prugh spoke on what it meant to get a victory over such a tough opponent.

“I’m feeling great, it’s good to stay undefeated and make teams kind of scared to come in and play us now. We’re a good team this year, we’re playing better and I just hope we stay good, keep beating teams and as long as we keep winning games we’ll be competing for the section championship,” Prugh said.

River Hawks Head Coach Corbin Bowser also thought Friday’s victory was impressive and a statement to the rest of the section.

“I think (Friday’s win) validates what we have been thinking. Last year we started slow, improved through the year and we have a lot of those same guys back this year. We thought we had something and beating a team like that tonight kind of validates that,” Bowser said.

The River Hawks MS teams will have some time off with the upcoming holidays and will play their next game away at the Kirk S. Nevin Arena against Greater Latrobe (3-6-0).
