New Fire Zones Proposed for North Buffalo

Volunteer firefighters who respond to vehicle accidents, fires and other emergencies in North Buffalo Township may be adapting to a new neighborhood.
After the July regular meeting, East Franklin Township Fire Chief Mark Feeney and fire chiefs from Applewold, Ford Cliff, Ford City, Manor Township, South Buffalo, West Kittanning and Worthington-West Franklin met to divide responsible areas in the 25-square mile township.
North Buffalo Supervisor Chief David Wolfe explained the need for the zone changes.
“At some point in time, somebody changed these zones. They’ve been changed five times in the past four years,” Wolfe said. “The last time, it was a pretty-significant change for the taxpayers and homeowners because whoever did it changed the distance from a fire department to a resident – some people’s homeowners’ insurance went from $700 to $1,100-$1,200, some went from $700 to $1,400 and some people lost their homeowners (insurance).”
With the exception of State Farm, insurance companies receive insurance ratings through the Insurance Service Office (ISO). All residents are now within four-and-a-half miles of a fire station to ensure adequate protection.
While individual fire companies are in-charge of incidents in those five sections, Chief Feeney said one rule of firefighting will not change.
“Every zone in this township, (whether it be for a) residence, barn or any structure, has four fire departments responding to it,” Chief Feeney said.
Volunteer firefighters would only respond individually for a carbon monoxide alarm or reported outside gas leak, Feeney added.

I can’t help but think this is a way to cut funding the the Worthington Fire Department. If I was in charge of the Worthington fire department I would let the North Buffalo Fire Department handle their fires. I don’t trust a damn person I. That picture. Not a damn one
