The River Hawks are coming off another tough loss, this time at the hands of Indiana, but they will look to bounce back and earn their first win Saturday during Senior Night against the Highlands Golden Rams.
Yesterday against Indiana, the Varsity River Hawks soccer team showed some flashes of success and came close to coming away with their first victory; unfortunately, going down 3-0 in the first half proved to be too much.
River Hawks Assistant Coach Dakoda Fickes explained the match.
“We went down in the first twenty minutes by three goals, and that’s when I made an adjustment to give us more offense. We started possessing the ball more and getting more opportunities after that. At the start of the second half, about two minutes in,we had a goal and got the ball back and that’s when Logan Bowser played a great ball over the top to Luke Brison and they got a goal. We had a couple opportunities at the end, but we just couldn’t step on it. “
The final score of the Varsity game was 3-2 and for the JV game the score was 3-1, both favoring Indiana.
The River Hawks will need to have a short memory as they prepare themselves for Highlands on Saturday, where seniors Xavier Graham, Steven Shaner, and Madison Wonderling will be honored at halftime for Senior Night.
Fickes went on to describe the plan for Saturday.
“What we do at halftime is we have the players parents come out and meet them and they walk on the field with them, and the players filled out a paper with all these questions that will be announced over the PA. Then after the game we will all head down to the pavilion to eat and have a good time.”
Coach Fickes believes that his team could be walking away with their first victory if all goes well.
“The first time we played Highlands, the score was 2-0 and we let some easy goals in, so hopefully we can execute our scouting report from the last time we played them and get the ball into the net,” Fickes said.
The River Hawks will be hosting Highlands with the first match starting at 10:00 AM at West Hills.
