Kittanning fire fighters were dispatched yesterday afternoon when a resident notified 911 that there was a troubling sound coming from the roof of their apartment building.
As the crew arrived on scene, it was apparent that the sound was coming from an air conditioning unit on the roof of the Rite-Aid building.
Resident Chris Jaskolka just moved here from Reading, PA last month. He described what he heard.
“I was inside my apartment and I just heard this loud bang. We heard this noise and we looked up and it was the air compressor above the Rite-Aid. So we went around front to see if anyone was in the Rite-Aid and nobody was in there. So that’s when we called it in.”
While the compressor did not catch fire, the sound of the malfunctioning fan could be heard throughout the 200 block of Market Street.
Fire fighters maneuvered onto the building from accesses on other buildings to finally shut down power to the unit.
Rite-Aid management did arrive and Fire Chief Gene Stephens explained the problem.
The call came in 5:38 PM and firemen were released at 6:17 PM.

As usual Hose Co #1 right on target, right on time even for a holiday. It was great the Kittg Paper had good coverage but the best part of all of this was the fact that the photo gave the public a great chance to see Market St. again. It’s looked like downtown Bagdad for so long it’s refreshing to see it again-even for a weekend. Notice the Boro Council doesn’t even mention the hell hole it is for five days a week and how much business what few real business establishments there are left, have lost-never to be recovered. Have no idea How Kling’s and the bridal shop among others, ever withstood the destruction of a once barely thriving business community. Do like the comments by the Bridal shop’s owner, though-as she asked just who and how many business people were asked to put parking on South Water-just another figment of Kimmie and Aunt Joie’s imagination run amok. The bet’s still on -if even five new fulltime jobs are created by your so-called $3 million revitalization, the steak dinners will be on their way. This is ultimate in oxymoronization-spend $3 million labeled revitalization that destroys a business community. But heh Joie, Kim and friends-it looks pretty!

Winchester, VA revitalized a while ago and it paid off — specialty shops and restaurants draw the crowds. They have First Night on New Years, people pay to attend concerts and be able to drink at an outside bar (blocked-off areas), other non-alcoholic concerts (i.e bluegrass) bring hundreds, they have sidewalk cafes, and art shops, etc. It takes time.
However, it may be difficult for Kittanning and Ford City since a few companies take over the space in these towns. That leaves little room for specialty shops to get started.
Rosebud did have some concerts—- they need to have more while other places of businesses open their doors at the same time.
Creative Dreams is sorely missed by the community. It was the one unique shop we had in the area that was valued by many. Bring back these types of shops (plus keep the thrift stores), and you’ll see an improvement… eventually.

Why not hold a pre-game pep rally at the amphitheater for the fans of the River Hawks?
That might bring some business to the stores.
Good job, Chris Jaskolka, for your awareness and concern. Most people would have ignored it.

Hmmmmmm…giving ideas for the town doesn’t get placed in the “recent comments” section?…people would rather read constant complaints about tax raises for the school district and Ford City when they can’t do a thing about it?
Hmmmmmmmmm
