Ford City Raw Water Line Fully Repaired

Ford City Borough employees and VBS contractors worked on repairing the raw water line near the intersection of 3rd Avenue and 8th Street until about 9PM last night.

A second raw water line break discovered in Ford City Borough late Monday night was repaired less than 24 hours later.

According to Borough Manager Eden Ratliff, the raw water line break repair – located about 10 feet from a break Borough workers and VBS contractors already repaired Monday - was completed about 9PM Tuesday.

“Everything is good to go. The lines are fixed – we tested it out and everything seemed fine,” Ratliff said. “We are no longer asking anyone to conserve water. They’re more-than-welcome to use as much water as they please.”

Borough residents were asked to conserve water after the line at the intersection of 3rd Avenue and 8th Street was not able to carry raw water to the water filtration plant for treatment. Borough Certified Water Plant Operator Pat Cujas worked overnight Monday to maintain the water filtration plant on Neale Avenue and made sure the tank was at capacity by 8:30AM Tuesday for residents to have enough water during the day.

“Understanding what we were up against from the night prior, I was confident we were going to get in there, fix that line and keep the town from running out of water. But, of course we appreciate everyone’s efforts to conserve,” Ratliff said.

It was the first water break on the raw water line Ratliff has dealt with since becoming Borough Manager, and the fifth raw water line break in the past 30 years.

Gibson-Thomas Engineers – the Borough’s water experts - were also aware of the situation and willing to assist if needed.

Municipal garbage collection was delayed until yesterday, but today’s garbage collection should continue as expected.
