A McKees Rocks man arrested by the Armstrong Narcotics Enforcement Team in February for dealing heroin was sentenced to serve jail time in Armstrong County yesterday, but was paroled later in the day.

ARMNET Area Coordinator Detective Frank Pitzer arrested Rashaan Ahmed Campbell, 33, February 20 in Manor Township.

According to the criminal complaints filed by ARMNET, Campbell and Nichole Claypoole, 23 of Kittanning, sold 50 stamp bags of heroin to a confidential informant at the residence. The sale was also in the presence of two children, two and eight years old,

Both faced charges of possession of controlled substance, possession with intent to deliver, delivery of a controlled substance, criminal use of a communications facility and possession of drug paraphernalia. Campbell pled guilty to misdemeanor drug possession before Court President Judge Kenneth Valasek yesterday afternoon before his sentencing.

Campbell was originally sentenced to be confined for six months to two years in the Armstrong County Jail before later parole.

Campbell and Claypoole were incarcerated on $50,000 bond each, with Campbell credited for serving 259 days of incarceration in the Armstrong County Jail.

The Armstrong County District Attorney’s Office Detective Bureau assisted in both instances.

There is something wrong with this whole situation.

I am not knowledgeable about the law and sentencing. Why was this guy paroled so soon? Was it because of time served? He old drugs in the presence of young children. The evidence seems to be air-tight, so why the light sentencing? Did he give up information on others in a plea bargain?

Mr. Sense- It’s sad to say, but welcome to Armstrong County- home of light sentences. Remember, we have three murderers who are getting slaps on the wrist for beating a guy to death in Kittanning.
