Last year’s Lenape Technical School students led the Manor Township-based school to the school’s highest performance ranking yet.

And, Lenape Tech Assistant Director/Principal Wesley Kuchta said Lenape Tech scored as advanced as the third-highest comprehensive career center in the state of Pennsylvania.

Although released in mid-October, the scores were recalled a few days later by state Department of Education leaders due to reported-accuracy and reliability concerns. According to the school performance profile website and after extra credit was calculated, Lenape Tech’s score rose from 77.3 to 77.7.

As Kuchta shared last month and is still accurate after scores were re-released, both all and historically underperforming students earned a performance score in mathematics and science for Closing the Achievement Gap – a national objective to increase student performance.

However, students in both categories only achieved about 70 out of 100 points in English Language Arts/literature and achieved less than 90 points in occupational competency (NOCTI) standardized tests – something Kuchta said teachers and administrators have already been addressing during professional development sessions.

“Our staff worked very hard last year, and we’ll continue to take the data and address it and move forward with a whole new crop of students,” Kuchta said in October.

“There’s many factors that go into success. (School Performance Profile) scores are just one of them, but obviously, we’re very proud of our staff and the hard work they put in for that score,” Kuchta said last night.

Former-principal now Administrative Director Karen Brock also aimed for students to work on literacy strategies at this time last school year.

The School Performance Profile reported more than 570 students from Apollo-Ridge, Armstrong, Freeport and Leechburg school districts attended Lenape Tech last school year – more than 420 of those students from Armstrong School District.

In general, Lenape Tech also earned high marks for cohort graduation rate, attendance and PSAT participation.

Lenape Tech’s overall scores rose from 66.5 in November 2015 to 77.7 this year.

Lenape Tech achieved a 74.6 score during the 2013-14 school year and scored higher in the three indicators of academic achievement.

Profiles began being released by the State following the 2012-13 school year.
