The undefeated 15-0 West Shamokin Wolves girls varsity volleyball team continued their winning ways last night as they defeated the Purchase Line Red Dragons in three straight sets on senior night.

The Wolves are having a statement year in their first season in the Heritage Conference defeating opponents with relative ease. Last night was no different as West Shamokin won three straight sets 25-13, 25-9, and 25-11.

It was a big night for the West Shamokin seniors as Andrea Orlosky finished the game with a team high 13 kills. Katie Glover also recorded 11 kills and 6 aces – including three in a row during the first set.

Glover brings a jump serve to the court, which is a big reason she racked up 6 aces. Head Coach Dan Spencer explained the importance and rarity of an excellent jump serve.

“n boys volleyball you see a lot of jump serves. A good jump serve is a hard ball to play, but in girls volleyball there aren’t a lot of teams that get to see (a jump serve) before they go up against Katie (Glover). If she’s on it makes it difficult for them and tonight she was on.”

It wasn’t all seniors though, as Olivia Fusaro racked up 24 assists. This is her first year as the primary setter on the team and Wolves Head Coach Dan Spencer and her teammates appreciate her outstanding set-ups.

“A lot of credit goes to Olivia Fusaro a first year setter who moves the ball from here to there, from lower heights to higher heights. She’s gives those seniors a lot of opportunity to look good and they finish it,” Spencer said.

The Wolves will travel to Norwin on Saturday to compete in a tournament before heading to Northern Cambria on Tuesday for their last regular season game.
