Nearly 40 student leaders closed out April sprucing up Ford City.
38 members of the Armstrong River Hawk LEO Club met on Saturday to clean up the Ford City trail, the local park, the borough’s two playgrounds, the hillside and streets as part of their regular Earth Day festivities.
Earth Day clean-up was something that the former Ford City High LEOs did yearly in conjunction with Ford City Parks and Recreation. Erin Burkett and Lauren Craig, the previous advisors at Ford City and current advisors at Armstrong High School knew they wanted to keep the tradition going.
Even though Earth Day was held 10 days prior, club officers and members chose the last weekend of the month due to Armstrong’s inaugural Dance-a-Thon to benefit Lenape Elementary student Sydney Brison.
Borough Parks and Recreation Committee Member Stacy Klukan directed the student leaders on what to do and praised them for their efforts.
After three hours of hard work, the students were invited to Ford Memorial United Methodist Church in the borough to enjoy a pizza lunch.
The club would like to organize a similar cleanup in Kittanning as well.
