County Votes for Sanders/Trump Showdown

County employees collect election supplies to store them in the County Maintenance Building along North Grant Avenue in Kittanning Borough before the sun set on Election Night. Poll results from Kittanning Borough’s 4th Ward were received first - before 8:30PM - before results came from Manor Township’s South precincts.
by Jonathan Weaver
Even though about 46 percent of Armstrong County voters cast their ballot during Tuesday’s Primary Election, it was not enough to offset poll results statewide in the upcoming presidential race.
Voters chose Democratic Senator Bernie Sanders to battle Republican Billionaire Donald Trump this November, but Democratic challenger Hillary Clinton received about 200,000 more votes statewide to win Pennsylvania.
According to unofficial results after 10PM last night, more than 2/3rds of Armstrong Republicans voted for Trump (more than 7,500 votes) while Sanders edged out Clinton by less than 100 votes to receive Armstrong County support (3,015 votes to 2,924, respectively).
All 68 Armstrong County precincts had results collected and tallied at the Armstrong County Courthouse Administration Building in Kittanning.
Sheriff’s deputies and maintenance officials received the first ballot box from Kittanning Borough’s 4th Ward (which also coincidentally supported Sanders and Trump) at approximately 8:25PM.
Judge of Elections Frances Atwood, a poll worker at the Hose Company No. 4 fire hall for about 15 years, said most of the precinct’s 200 residents that voted cast their ballots after 5PM.
“We had a nice amount of people that voted today – 206 people,” Atwood said. “More than we ever have.”
She was aided by four other poll workers Tuesday.
Manor Township South No. 1 and No. 2 results came in simultaneous shortly after 8:30PM.
Even though the county as a collective group voted for Senator Sanders, municipalities such as Apollo and Applewold Boroughs and two of the three East Franklin Township precincts voted in favor of Clinton as well.
During her victory speech, Clinton (who rallied in Westmoreland County Monday) thanked voters, supporters and community leaders – including Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf.
“With your help, we’re going to come back to Philadelphia for the Democratic National Convention,” Clinton said at her news conference. “We will unify our party to win this election and build an America where we can all rise together.”
Of Armstrong County’s six border counties, only Jefferson voters also cast a majority vote for Sanders.
Trump and Clinton both also won primaries in Connecticut, Maryland and Delaware.

Nearly 120 votes were cast at Kittanning Borough’s 1st Ward polling place at the Borough municipal building yesterday. Following the lead of the rest of the County, voters cast a majority of their votes for Republican Presidential Candidate Donald Trump, but voted on behalf of Democratic Candidate Hillary Clinton rather than Bernie Sanders.
Kittanning Mayor Kirk Atwood was one of six candidates selected to attend the Democratic National Convention.
Locally, incumbent Republican State Senator Don White (born in Kittanning) and Democratic challenger Tony DeLoreto (of White Township, Indiana County) both overwhelmingly won their respective parties support to face off against each other this November.
The 41st Senatorial District includes all of Armstrong and Indiana Counties as well as parts of Butler and Westmoreland Counties.
Even though Congressman Mike Kelly (R-Butler) and Representatives Jeff Pyle (R-Ford City) and Donna Oberlander (R-Clarion) do not have formal challengers, Apollo, Parks Township and Leechburg voters will get to choose between incumbent Joseph Petrarca and Michael Geiselhart to represent them this fall.
Comparatively, less than 6,850 Armstrong County voters took to their municipal voting booths in the Primary Election two years ago.
When polls were closing at 8PM, Commissioner George Skamai was swearing in County Elections Director Jennifer Bellas, Voting Machine Technician/Programmer Jeff Jessell and six volunteer employees yesterday and will do the same when they record absentee ballots today.
“Everybody was very upbeat and excited,” Skamai said.
He commended Bellas for her duties during her first Primary Election as County director. Bellas took over for Wendy Buzard in January after shadowing Buzard for four months.
“(Bellas’) first election by herself, it’s a presidential election and honestly, she’s as cool as a cucumber back there,” Skamai said. “She’s a real asset.”
An estimated-more than 18,400 Armstrong County residents cast their votes.

@Wman, Are you paying attention to the Gaffe’s coming out of Trump the Rumps mouth, apparently not!
The Erratic Foreign Policy Speech and now the crazy comment about US Bankruptcy, Really! Wman, you still don’t have the demographics and this guy Rump has alinated everybody including women, Hispanic, Muslims, and you need all of these groups to win the White House. It my well be the lesser of two Evil’s, but, Never Trump, Never.

This is old news about Trump but I see he is facing three separate class action lawsuits alleging fraud in the operation of Trump University. The lawsuits involve claims that the university defrauded as many as 5,000 people out of $35,000 in tuition fees for a series of real estate seminars. A hearing in one of the cases will begin on the first day of the GOP convention. A full blown trial in two of the cases is expected to occur before the presidential election. I copied this from the newspaper but have heard this a long time ago. When he talks about Hillary, it is like the pot calling the kettle black. Lol
By jerry6, May 9, 2016 @ 12:38 PM
I saw this before but saw it again today. Trump said back in 08, that it was nonsense what they were doing to Bill Clinton impeaching him and things about him and other women. He changes with the wind on what he says. He even had the Clintons at one of his three marriages. Like I said, it is the pot calling the kettle black. Lol

Mad-
Hillary is very intelligent. Nobody will argue that. Her demeanor and personality however lend themselves to being baited into situations where her IQ may not be enough to have her message come across as a positive. I have seen it many times already with her vs Sanders who has had the kiddie gloves on for the most part. Trump has slugged it out in the boardroom for decades. That is real world experience on how to manage people. He will take no prisoners and I believe Hillary will implode on the stage.

By worthingtonman, May 9, 2016 @ 10:25 PM
The one thing I can say about this upcoming campaign is that it is going to be one of the wildest we have ever seen in the USA. And as a thinking soul, I can honestly say either outcome will be a disaster. I do not understand how anyone besides Comrad Justsayin can be excited. And she is clearly sexist because all she seems to care about is the fact that Hillarry is a woman . By the time Trump is finished with her, I can not see how she will be able to show her face. But then again she has no shame . The demographics may not be there for Trump to win the popular vote, but they are definitely there for him to win the electoral college. Most pundits on the left are already showing doubt in her ability to win the rust belt which could clearly spell doom for her. The polls are already tightening and now the kid gloves Sanders and Obama wore are coming off. It will be interesting for sure. But clearly we are screwed either way.

Sick… Your apparent Bias is interfering with your intelligence!
“Her demeanor and personality however lend themselves to being baited into situations where her IQ may not be enough to have her message come across as a positive.” You are kidding, Right? Have you even heard 1 of the Rumps Pitiful Speeches? Example: Rumps answer on the US Nuclear Triad, Absurd! It was so Poor of an answer that a 5th grader could tell Rump was Clueless, Clueless! This is a guy you want to have the Launch Codes? Now, on the other hand, Clinton would have Rolled right thru a question about the US Nuclear Triad, No Question who is More Qualified! Clinton, No Doubt!!
Example 2: Rumps Foreign Policy Speech, Pitiful, down right Pitiful, again, Clueless! On the other hand Clinton would again Roll right Thru this Issue, again, No Doubt! This is the guy you want to run this Nation based on TV Reality, Rump, How Ridiculous! LOL When you become so used to Losing you tend to grasp at anything or in this case, anyone! How Dare you (sick) begin to compare the Disarray you call the republican Party to what is happening with the Democratic side of the ball, your information is very Poor, but then, your information always has been substandard! So, worthingtonman, who is your candidate?
Trump is pro-coal, pro-work, has pledged to bring work back from Mexico, pro-natural gas, pro-military, pro-2nd amendment, and wants to Make America Great Again. You know, those things that made America great in the first place - like legal immigration, work and capitalism.
What is it, about that, that you don’t like?
By Just sayin, May 10, 2016 @ 10:06 AM
Worthi wrote, “…Comrad Justsayin.” First of all, I NEVER said I was a socialist. I said it wasn’t BAD. Get it? Got it? Good.
Worthi also wrote, “And she is clearly sexist because all she seems to care about is the fact that Hillarry is a woman . By the time Trump is finished with her, I can not see how she will be able to show her face.”
If the admin would allow the previous comments, Worthi would CLEARLY see why that statement of his is not true.
I wrote a huge LIST of ” Why Hillary Clinton” previously. I am for her Not because she is a woman, but the more power to her if she does win!
Like President Obama, she will have to work TWICE as hard and have to prove herself BECAUSE she is a woman. Only twice as strong people can do this. Annie, get your gun!
So, now Worthi is for Trump— just like Trump—all wishy-washy inside his brain…
Hillary will NOT fight dirty like Trump, as she has stated. She will stick to the issues and not fight like an insecure bully. She has class. Trumpy wumpy’s money can’t buy him class.

I can’t respect the disrespectful.
If you read these comments, (which I know you do because you comment about them on your radio show), you would know that Jorn Jensen is not a “first-time” name caller, but he is also a long-time verbal abuser. It is atrocious. Honey and vinegar don’t work for this guy. It’s almost like he is a cyborg. I tried being civil.

mad- Debating isn’t about the issues. Newsflash. It is about who can dominate the field. Presidents are like any other CEO. They don’t know every single detail about every single thing. They MANAGE a staff that they assemble and expect escalation.
Trump may not be the best candidate for nuclear subjects. I guarantee he will have the best advisor for nuclear subjects, and that person will have a clear understanding of his responsibilities, and fully realize there are consequencs for non performance. There will be no slacking by the staff with a Trump presidency.

An article on the NPR.org website read:
“A day after de facto Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump said ‘there’s nothing to learn’ from making his tax returns public before this November’s elections, the billionaire is taking heat from the party’s 2012 nominee over that stance.
‘It is disqualifying for a modern-day presidential nominee to refuse to release tax returns to the voters,’ said Mitt Romney in a post on Facebook.
Trump insists he won’t release his returns until the Internal Revenue Service has finished auditing them. An NPR fact check from February found that there was no law that prohibited the release of tax returns that were under audit.
Trump’s decision to withhold the tax returns would break a nearly 40-year tradition for presidents and major presidential candidates, according to the Tax History Project.
‘There is only one logical explanation for Mr. Trump’s refusal to release his returns: There is a bombshell in them,’ Romney said. ‘Given Mr. Trump’s equanimity with other flaws in his history, we can only assume it’s a bombshell of unusual size.’
Romney’s comments mark yet another moment of tension between the two men. In March, Romney called Trump ‘a fraud’ and a ‘con artist’ and urged Republican voters to pick any other viable candidate in the presidential primary. Romney said he will not vote for Trump in the general election (or Hillary Clinton) and will not attend this summer’s Republican convention.”
What a circus this election is…

Just read and saw it reported that birdnest Trump didn’t pay any Federal taxes for two years. He was after Romney to release his tax records when he was running for president and now he refuses to release his. What reason could there be for this other than he doesn’t have as much as he brags about and he probably pays no taxes or very little. I watch him and wonder how in the world anyone can vote for him. Mark Cuban said he would be Hillary’s VP and he said he was approached by the republicans to run on their ticket. He said he is friends of Trump’s but he is a blankity blank airhead.

@mad:
LOL, can you be any more ill-informed?
1. Hillary said “It does appear that it was an act of terrorism — exactly how, of course, the investigation will have to determine’.
Whew, thank heaven she took a position… kind of.
Didn’t hear Trumps F.P. speech, but let’s look at Hillary’s RECORD:
1. Lybia - a wreck. Khadafi stopped his nuclear program, gave us everything and now look where he is.
2. Bengazhi - a wreck, Clinton Lied people died. ( Actually running guns from Libya through Turkey to get to Syrian Rebels… I mean ISIS).
3. Russia “reset button” - invaded Crimea.
4. Egypt - a wreck. backed the Muslim Brotherhood
5. Honduras - backed Hugo Chavez’s candidate who illegally tried to singlehandedly change the Constitution of that country.
6. Syria- a wreck. Let’s see we have a choice keep Assad in power until we can get rid of ISIS or back ISIS. Well, we are not helping Assad.
7. Clinton said she was against total withdrawal of Iraq, then said nothing she could do because there was no Status of Forces agreement… Which as Secretary of State it was her job to negotiate!
8. 2009 Iran, protests in the street as the moderate population of Iran protested against Ahmadinejad “fixed” election. State Department was silent about allowing freedom of expression and so on. All the while the Iranians were expanding their nuclear program.
Clinton is the perfect example of MAFA.

Yep, the world has not blown up not because of her efforts, but in spite of them.

The republicans questioned Clinton for 11 hours on Benzaghi and asked the top republican afterwards did they learn anything new and he said no. You republicans just can’t let it go. Worthingtonman: I care if a billionaire has paid any taxes. Why should the little guy pay and a rich man get away with not paying. If this was Obama, you republicans would be complaining about this. Trump is funny going on about Bill Clinton when I heard a republican woman saying he has no room to talk when he has did these same things in his personal life. Trump should tell how he is going to accomplish all of these things he is going to do with the country instead of this garbage that spills out of his mouth. He kissed on of the Miss America contestants on the lips and she said she was very disgusted. One said he has apricot lips.

Mike Crowley, in a report for Time said:
“Still, even if you want to argue that Clinton had no huge successes, her tenure had no gigantic managerial failures either. Her competence has rarely been called into question by anyone except those on the extreme right still frothing at the mouth over Benghazi.”

JD-
You weren’t late to the party, you were obviously never invited!
OF COURSE Donald Trump has some holes in his world-wide, military and government knowledge. As a private citizen, he isn’t privy to all of the things that are water cooler talk to pro politicians. Furthermore, he has made zero bones about dominating the business world and only recently becoming a politician. He has said point blank he has taken advantage of every single loophole and legal tactic out there to make money. In other words, he is a good businessman. Yeah yeah yeah, the bankruptcies. Bring that up again and we can all just google bankrupt companies in America. Did you root for the Pens recently? Yeah, they went bankrupt too once upon a time…….
Trump is different on many levels, including teleprompter free events, mostly off-the-cuff speeches and debates etc. I am sure he preps some, but nowhere near the levels of the puppets that hire the top politico’s to tell them; how to get elected, down to what to wear, where to put emphasis, how to smile, how to stand, how to sit, how to wave, best ways to hold their arms while standing, etc.
Anyone else notice Kasich doing less of the oral-fidgeting and noticeably attempting NOT to do it the longer his campaign went? I did.
I said it already. When it started and now that it is down to three candidates total, NOBODY would put together a better team and NOBODY would run a tighter ship than Donald Trump. His business background already shows he knows how to manage big things.
Heard Hillary is having some more issues. Imagine that. That woman should have horns and wear red all the time.
Be sure to tune into the first debate between Trump and Clinton. That should pretty much show you who knows how to manage situations and who has been coddled their entire life. Assuming, of course, Hillary isn’t in prison yet for betraying our country. Heck, Obama owned Hillary in the debates. Can’t wait to see Trump and his winning mentality publicly harpoon her. Best part is it is definitely coming, and she full well knows it! Wait for the reports, they will come from Fox, about all the demands her camp will try to make for the debates……….LOL.

In regards to Benghazi, I think many people including myself would feel better about that nightmare had the Delta Force or perhaps theNavy Seals had been on their way to help when these folks were murdered. At least we would have been trying. Also had Clinton and Rice not lied to the families and The world by blaming it on a movie that would have changed a lot of opinions.
The New York Times hit piece on Trump and women was largely discredited by the women quoted in the story. Do we really want want a serial Liar and a serial abuser of women in the White House?

@mad:
Looney tunes ?
You called me a liar ( saying I wasn’t in Germany), so I proved, AGAIN, how you were wrong. ( also on coal proved you were WRONG).
Just for you is more details:
1. The Brits were annoyed that Obummer told them to stay in the EU, AND for telling them they will go to the back of the line on any trade deals.
2. The Germans were really annoyed when Obummer told them to keep taking in refugees, well at least those who were not politicians were annoyed.
Keep drinking water from those lead pipes, the results are showing!

Been thinking that maybe Hitlery should have Monica Lewinsky as her running mate. The ticket wouldn’t be the first thing they’ve shared!
Snott star, are you the boy who married into money with the wife who ran for commissioner?
