Tennessee Man Injured in Route 28/66 Crash

A Tennessee man was transported to a local hospital following Wednesday’s early-morning crash, but was only thought to have sustained minor injuries.

New details into the crash that injured one man along a local highway Wednesday morning were released by Pennsylvania State Police yesterday.

According to the police report, Wesley Largent, 52 of Elizabethton, Tenn. was traveling south on Route 28/66 when he fell asleep and struck a utility pole along the roadway.

The 2006 GMC Sierra collided with a utility pole near McAuley Falls Road (across from Tri-County Truck Center).

Midnight and early-morning traffic was shut down for hours as a result of the crash.

The accident not only sheared a telephone pole and dragged wires down across the roadway, but also caused several spot fires in the area for Pine Township, Rayburn Township and Kittanning Township volunteer fire crews to extinguish.

After power was turned off, Kittanning #6 Ambulance emergency responders were able to extricate Largent and transport him to Armstrong County Memorial Hospital in East Franklin Township for evaluation.

A medical helicopter was originally on stand-by, but was not needed as Largent was found wearing his seatbelt and suffered only minor injuries.

Fire crews left the scene after two hours on-scene.

The GMC Sierra did sustain disabling damage to the front of the vehicle and had to be towed from the scene by Mohney’s Towing.

Up to 500 West Penn Power customers lost electricity during the accident according to the online First Energy outage map.

Larget is to be charged in the incident for violating Statute 3309 detailing a driver’s duties laned for traffic.
