Hundreds Turn Out for Worthington Easter Egg Hunt

One-year-old Carmen Palumbo, daughter of Lou & Jennifer Palumbo of Applewold has her egg collection technique perfected at yesterday’s Easter Egg Hunt in Worthington.
Children and parents came from areas all around middle Armstrong County, to converge on Worthington American Legion Post 828 for its fifth annual Easter Egg Hunt yesterday afternoon.
Hundreds of children sprawled out over many rolling acres of the Legion property, each child assigned to the appropriate age category area.
Helen Anderson from North Buffalo Township, who was assisting her sister, Linda Dunmire, remembered the early years of the festivity.
“Years ago, we didn’t have too many kids coming. Bob Edwards came to us and ask us if we would help him with the Easter Egg Hunt, then we started getting more and more people every year. And it keeps getting bigger each year.”
There were 2160 eggs - 432 eggs per group, and there were five different age categories beginning at age 1 and going to age 12. Anderson said each egg is special with something in it.
“There is money in them. There are toys in them. Then we have refreshments and we have crafts for them to do.”
Although freezing temperatures brought flurries to the afternoon hunt, Anderson said they decided to keep everyone indoors until it was time for the hunt; then, they returned back inside after the hunt.

Five-year-old Addison Blose from East Franklin Township pauses to sit on the Easter Bunny’s lap after her collection of eggs at the Worthington American Legion.
“No because it was cold outside last year and we brought everyone inside (after the hunt) so that is why we decided to keep it inside until it got nicer out.”
American Legion Auxiliary President Barbara Long paused to thank the sisters for their organizational assistance.
“(We acknowledge) how much Linda and her sister do for this Easter Egg Hunt. They collect all year. They do it themselves and they are not reimbursed. This is just something they do and we all appreciate it so much.”
Long also acknowledged the volunteers that assisted with filling cups with punch and putting pretzels in little cups.
Long said she hopes the tradition will last for many years to come.

The hills of the American Legion Post 828 just outside of Worthington came alive yesterday with children and parents during the fifth annual Easter Egg Hunt.
