“Fabulous Hubcaps” In Concert Tonight
by Jonathan Weaver
After success last year, a Maryland-based oldies band “The Fabulous Hubcaps” is rolling back into Ford City’s 10th Street Station.
Band Manager Janie Noelte said last year group members – inductees of the Southern Legends Performing Arts Hall of Fame and the Maryland Entertainment Hall of Fame last year – are anxious for their visit tonight and hope to see guests fill up the dance floor to the music from the `50’s through the `70’s
She added that the event is sure to bring out personalities like Tina Turner, Elton John and Elvis Presley to guests of all ages.
The last original band member, Denny Cook, is also looking forward to the return trip.
“We’re really looking forward to coming back,” Cook said. “I’m really looking forward to it – I think it’s going to be a rock `n rollin` good time.”
Cook actually started in radio, thinking it was the closest he would come to music.
“I was a DJ and announcer for five years (before I) started to get off the air and into sales (but) things weren’t going too well there and I got laid off,” Cook said. “Me and a friend went and saw a band in College Park, Maryland – ‘Harvey Hubcap and the Do Ron Ron.’ I found out they were having some auditions coming up for a bass player, so I joined in 1974, one thing led to another over the years and I’ve been singing ever since.
“My dream was really never to be a performer, but I always loved music,” Cook said.
Last year, Ford City Renaissance Community Partnership Chair Paul Klukan and wife, Barbara, first saw the national touring band at the Palace Theatre in Greensburg with two other couples.
Ticket sales for a benefit dance with “The Fabulous Hubcaps” in November 2014 reached Butler, Harrisburg and the state of West Virginia, Renaissance Chairman Paul Klukan said.
“This is what we’re trying to do – bring people into town and bring the community together,” Paul said.
Doors open at 6:30PM, with the show beginning at 7:30PM.
Tickets are still available at Janny’s Hallmark, Baer Beauty, and Young’s Interiors of Ford City—or by calling 724-763-3974.
Cook said some good last-minute Christmas ideas –including hats, jackets and CDs - will also be available for fans tonight.
