A superintendent change within a local school district has also affected Lenape Tech’s leadership.

Last night, seven members of the Joint Operating Committee unanimously approved for Leechburg Area Superintendent Ian Magness to be replaced by Armstrong Superintendent Chris DeVivo as Superintendent of Record beginning the first of November.

Magness, who took over for Apollo-Ridge Superintendent Matthew Curci at the end of June, will be the new Freeport Area Superintendent also tentatively slated for the first day of November.

The four joining school district superintendent’s rotate the appointment every two years.

Lenape Tech Administrative Director Dawn Kocher-Taylor thanked Magness for his service.

Magness – a former Apollo-Ridge principal – started at Leechburg June 30, 2014 and, upon his appointment, hoped to make the relationship between Leechburg Area and Lenape Tech stronger and continue to encourage Leechburg and students from all four supporting districts to attend.

“I’ve had those relationships, so it’s good to be back in town, so to speak,” Magness said at the Joint Operating Committee meeting in June. “I’m looking forward to coming up here as the Superintendent of Record and I’m only hoping to partially fill the big shoes Dr. Curci’s leaving. I’m hoping to model what I do over the next two years and supporting (Administrative Director Dawn) Kocher-Taylor, faculty and staff here based on his leadership.”

Freeport Area School Board President Dan Lucovich – who briefly acted as President Pro Tempe during the beginning of the public meeting - was one of the school committee members that approved of Magness’ resignation.
