Commissioner Candidates Choose Appearances
The candidates for Armstrong County Commissioner turned down one appearance while scheduling another.
The Indiana Armstrong Patriots will be hosting an Armstrong County Commissioners Debate on Tuesday, October 13, at 6:30 P.M. at the Towne Hall on 11329 US Route 422, just west of the Elderton intersection. All candidates have been invited to attend.
The Indiana Armstrong Patriots strive to conduct a fair and nonpartisan forum so that the voters of Armstrong County can make intelligent decisions when they enter the voting booth. The role of the County Commissioner is vital to the growth of a county.
Meanwhile, only candidate Pat Fabian and incumbent commissioner David Battaglia have agreed to participate in a forum on Family-Life TV on October 27. Candidates Jason Renshaw and George Skamai have rejected the invitation.

Attended the ‘debate’ this evening, presented by the WSHS government classes at West Shamokin Jr.-Sr. high school. Got there and the parking lot was full. I thought, “Finally, voters have taken an interest.” Got inside and about 50 people were in attendance. Must have been something else going on at the school last evening.
I was ready with 3 questions, but that was ‘not the system’. Students had prepared 13 questions that were asked of all 4 candidates (all 4 were in attendance). The students did an excellent job. What a great learning experience for them.
The pledge of allegiance was recited.
I found question #7 to be interesting. Is Armstrong County better off today than 4 years ago? The republican candidates agreed that it is, the democrat candidates agreed that it is not. You draw your own conclusion - I’ve drawn mine. Our bond rating has declined, we’ve dropped performance-based employee appraisal system for typical union-mentality across-the-board even raises.
50 people there and there’s somewhere around 68,000 to 70,000 people in Armstrong County. Sad.

Perhaps the folks who put together these debates and meet and greets should check to see when these political party’s or dinners are BEFORE they schedule debates.
If they didn’t schedule debates on the same nights as these dinners it would make for better participation by candidates if there wasn’t multiple things going on the same night.
The kp and some posters make it all about who didn’t attend, when the headline and story should focus more on what happened at the event.
jenny you say Fabian and Skamai ‘can get my vote’. This seems rather oddly stated, will they or won’t they?

I was just reading Patty Kirkpatrick’s letter to the editor in the Horse Trader. She tells people not to vote for Battaglia. She said since he went into office, he has spent money buying new furniture, doing unnecessary redecorating, creating new county positions with higher positions with higher than normal salaries, giving himself a 5% pay increase when employees received 3% in 2014.She says to investigate his misleading campaign flyers. I don’t know if Kirkpatrick is a dem or rep. I think to have three new commissioners would be great.

I agree Jerry6, we need a fresh start and I think Skamai, Renshaw and Fabian would mesh together quite well. I am so sick of hearing people say that we have to vote Battaglia to have 2 Republicans. Seriously? People need to vote with their conscience and not be slaves to their parties… the parties don’t care one bit for the people, trust me!
