TV Auction to Sell Everything from Grandma’s Closet This Saturday Night

A collectible pitcher from the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks (foreground) is just one of hundreds of items from “Grandma’s Closet” that will be featured in Saturday’s TV Auction beginning at 7PM.

The Family-Life TV Auction is not new… it has been around for a long time.

But this Saturday, the TV Auction will feature items for sale donated from Grandma’s Closet.

“Grandmas always stash all the good stuff in their closet,” host David Croyle said. “We have discovered some of the best-of-the-best keepsakes that local people will want to bid on.”

Indeed, over $7,000 worth of merchandise will be auctioned off beginning at 7PM and running throughout the evening.

Items are too numerous to mention, but Croyle said much of it falls under the category of “antique” or “collectible.”

“There is an ice cream scoop from the early 1900s valued over $300. It is special because it was used to create square slabs of ice cream that would be used in the original ice cream sandwiches you would buy at parlors at the turn of the century.”

Also in the same price range is a carousel sold last year at QVC that plays dozens of old-fashioned merry-go-round music. Flip a switch and it plays Christmas tunes as it rotates and lights flash.

Another notable piece is a full length mink coat valued at over $3,000.

Sports collectors will be bidding on the first World Series poster from 1903 that features the Boston Red Sox playing the Pittsburgh Pirates. It’s value is unknown, but it is framed and would be a conversation piece in any game room or restaurant.

Croyle said he expects some items to go for just pennies on the dollar, but said you just never know how far someone will go to get a particular item.

There will be 7 items grouped to a table. Bids will be accepted via telephone or texting on those items. Then the table closes, and another table begins. Croyle said because of the number of items, no table will last very long.

Other items include: blender, 1950 Oliver Tractor set, antique Farm-All toy tractor, multiple Elvis memorabilia, Christmas ornament from France, candy dishes, 1910 serving tray, 1900 dye cabinet, Pyrex glass dish, Sterling silver jewelry, 1880 wire shelf coat rack, crystal goblets, Grandpa’s clock radio, 1890 welcome sign, carved bench, Halloween decorations from the 1940s and 50s, John Deer toy tractor, curio wall cabinet, Red hat bear in a chair, Incolay jewelry box, Seneca Indian poster, meat grinder, large antique Pennzoil oil container, Grandma’s quilt, a 1910 Sears catalog holder… and the list goes on and on!

Of course, there are certificates from local businesses including Sheetz cards, Dilick’s Jewelry store, Cake Concepts, Dizzie Lizzy’s, Fox’s Pizza, Kwik Lube, and Riverside Market.

The TV Auction is available to Comcast cable subscribers in Kittanning, Ford City, Worthington and Freeport on Channel 23, in addition to Rural Valley, Adrian, Apollo, Vandergrift, Leechburg, Greensburg and the entire Alle-Kiski area of Tarentum, Springdale, Natrona Heights and other municipalities on Channel 190.

The program can be viewed on the Internet at www.familylifetv.com.

It will also be available to radio listeners on 1380 AM WTYM. A free app is available for download for any mobile device for listening outside the broadcast area.
