Ford City Man Among Drivers Involved in Route 28 Crash

On Monday, August 17, 2015, Pennsylvania State Police Corporal Chris Robbins responded to reports of a multi-vehicle crash on Route 28 northbound, near the Tarentum exit. The crash occurred just after 8:30 PM.

While investigating the crash, it was discovered that this was actually two separate crashes. The first one was a two-vehicle crash, while the second one involved a three-vehicles.

A PennDOT maintenance crew was in the area merging traffic in the one lane for reflector installation. On the first crash, Jacob Tyler Martin of Natrona Heights failed to see a vehicle driven by Amanda Mientus of Sarver, who was slowing down at the merge point, and rear-ended Mientus’ car. Martin’s car was towed due to damage. Mientus suffered a minor injury. She was treated on scene and released.

On the second crash, Nathan Meanor of Natrona Heights failed to see a vehicle operated by Tahlon Kirkland of Sarver, who also was slowing for traffic ahead of him. Meanor crashed into the rear of Kirkland, who then crashed into the rear of a third vehicle operated by John Edward Harrold of Ford City. There were no injuries. Meanor’s vehicle was towed from the scene by Terry’s Towing.

All persons were using seatbelts.

Robbins said these incidents caused a significant traffic impact for approximately an hour and a half.

State Police were assisted at the scene by Tarentum and East Deer Police and Eureka Fire Rescue.

We came though there, barely missing the wrecks. I saw the PennDot truck sitting there with the flashing light on and wondered why it was there. Putting reflectors on at 8:30 PM and then this - just over the crest of a hill?
