OBIT: Donald J. Black (Kittanning)
Donald J. Black, 79, of East Franklin Township passed away on Friday, August 14, 2015 at ACMH Hospital.
He was born in Kittanning on January 15, 1936, a son of Harry and Laura Ethel (Champion) Black. He was a lifelong resident of Furnace Run.
He proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps from August 3, 1953 to September 1, 1955 at Paris Island in Quantico, VA where he received the National Defense Service medal and earned the rank of Sergeant E-4.
Don worked for Freeport Brick in their clay mines before going to R&P/Consol coal mines, retiring from there on December 1, 1995 after 26 years of service.
Don was an avid hunter and loved camping and spending time with his family. He was a member of the Furnace Run Chapel.
He will be sadly missed by his wife of 60 years: Pearline, who he married on March 12, 1955; sons: Donald Black and fiancé Nancy, Jeff (Kim) Black, Rick (Sharon) Black, and Lance (Ondrea) Black; daughter: Jamie (Ray) Toy; daughter-in-law: Wanda Black; 19 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; brother: James (Dee) Black; sisters: Joan Grafton, Donna (Jim) Barnett, and Rose (Ralph) Davis.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters: Betty Toy and Sondra Bowser; brothers: Arnold Black and Richard Black.
Friends will be received from 2-4 and 7-9 PM on Monday, August 17, 2015 and from 10AM until the time of a funeral service on Tuesday, August 18, 2015 at the Snyder-Crissman Funeral Home in Kittanning. Pastor Jimmy Edwards will officiate.
