OBIT: Stanley Alexander Volek (Kittanning)
Stanley Alexander Volek, 92, of Kittanning, passed away Sunday, August 9, 2015 at the Armstrong County Health Center.
He was born May 7, 1923 in Cadogan to Michael and Mary Ann (Dziegciasz) Volek.
Stan graduated from Ford City High School in 1941 and honorably served in the U.S. Army Air Corps and the Counter Intelligence Corps during World War II.
For 15 years, he was the proprietor of Volek’s Dairy Store in West Kittanning, and then went to work as a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service for 27 years until his retirement in 1985.
Stan was a member of St. Mary, Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church and also belonged to the Knights of Columbus and Disabled American Veterans.
His memory will be cherished by his daughter, Karen A. Volek, of Kittanning; two sons: Thomas K. Volek and wife, Staley, of Butler, and Timothy S. Volek and wife, Cindy, of Kittanning; seven grandchildren; two brothers: John Volek, of Ford City, and Andre Volek, of Freeport; and four sisters: Dorothy Kijowski, Helen Sacik and Rande Volek, all of Ford City, and Betty Ann McKinney, of Cadogan.
Stan was preceded in death by his parents; loving wife of 55 years, Dolores A. (Kane) Volek, whom he married November 12, 1949 and who died January 23, 2005; daughter, Kathryn Volek (Rayl); three brothers: Henry, Joseph and Leo Volek; and five sisters: Frances Kaminski, Pauline Soriano, Ann Robinson, Florence Heinold and Marie Livengood.
Friends will be received from 7-9PM tomorrow - Wednesday, August 12, 2015 - at the Bauer Funeral Home in Kittanning.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 10AM on Thursday, August 13, 2015, at St. Mary, Our Lady Guadalupe Church in Kittanning, 101 W. High St., Kittanning, PA, with the Reverend Douglas E. Dorula as celebrant.
Interment will be St. Francis of Paola Cemetery in Freeport.
