North Apollo Man Lies on Background Check
Charges were filed earlier this week on a 57-year-old unidentified man from North Apollo after he gave a false answer on an ATF form.
The incident happened while the man was attempting to purchase a weapon at Schultz’s Sportsman Shop along Route 56 East in Kiskiminetas Township.
When purchasing a weapon, the buyer is obligated to complete Form 4473 established by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) in the United States Department of Justice. The form contains name, address, date of birth, government-issued photo ID, National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) background check transaction number, make/model/serial number of the firearm, and a short affidavit stating that the purchaser is eligible to purchase firearms under federal law. Lying on this form is a felony and can be punished by up to five years in prison in addition to fines.
Charges were filed on July 25, 2015 through Magisterial District Judge James Andring.
