Virginia Dell Crytzer, 95, of Kittanning, passed into the hands of our Lord with loving members of her family present on Tuesday, June 30, 2015, at the Armstrong County Health Center in Kittanning.

She was born June 13, 1920, on Troy Hill in Rayburn Township, the daughter of the late Harry W. and Romaine I. (Fleming) Laird Sr.

Virginia proudly worked for nearly 27 years as a nurse’s aide at the Armstrong County Memorial Hospital.

Following her retirement, she and a retired coworker and good friend, Cora Brown, highlighted their respective retirements with a trip to the Hawaiian Islands.

Virginia was a lifelong member of Union Avenue Methodist Church in Kittanning.

She loved her family and visited with them at every opportunity. Some of her most memorable times were of when she traveled with her children and grandchildren throughout the U.S. and parts of Canada.

Virginia was an avid “knitter” and “crocheter.” Most of her immediate family members and many of her friends boast an afghan or other fabric item which was created with love by her busy fingers.

She also was proud of her independence and until a recent fall which resulted in a hip fracture, she maintained her own apartment.

Virginia is survived by a daughter, Rosalie Shaffer and husband, Frederick, of Vandergrift; a daughter-in-law, Linda (Landis) Crytzer, of Granstsville, Pa.; three sons: Homer D. Crytzer Jr. and wife, SueAnn, of Dayton, Ronald E. Crytzer and wife, Joanne, of Smicksburg, and Jonny A. Crytzer and wife, Nellie, of Ford City; two sisters: Joyce (Alfred) Martin of East Franklin Township and Letty Ann (William) Ashe of North Buffalo Township; 15 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Virginia was preceded in death by her husband, Homer D. Crytzer Sr., who died in 1981; a son, Harry A. Crytzer; a granddaughter, Diana Lynne Crytzer; two sisters: June Ardell Laird, who died in infancy and Roma C. McCullough; and a brother, Harry W. Laird Jr.

Friends will be received from 2-4 and 7-9PM today, Wednesday, July 1, 2015, at the Snyder-Crissman Funeral Home in Kittanning.

Additional visitation will be offered from 10-11AM tomorrow - Thursday, July 2, 2015.
