Pennsylvania State Police are investigating the death of a Templeton man who died as the result of a motor vehicle accident this morning.
Shortly before 1AM this morning, Rayburn Township and Kittanning Township volunteer firefighters were alerted to a one-vehicle accident along River Road (State Route 1033) in Rayburn Township.
State troopers on-scene alerted firefighters before they were en-route of the possible fatality, and County Coroner Brian Myers’ office was contacted about five minutes later.
Myers identified the victim as 56-year-old Robert A. Morrow, of Painter Road in Templeton.
In his morning report, Myers wrote that Morrow was traveling south on the road when the 2005 GMC Sierra pick-up truck he was driving left the roadway, struck a bank, slide on its side and landed back on its wheels.
Morrow was pronounced dead on scene by Coroner Myers due to blunt force trauma to the head and chest. Myers said it was unclear how or why the vehicle left the roadway.
Morrow was not wearing a seatbelt. The GMC Sierra was towed from the scene.
While an autopsy will not be performed, toxicology results are pending.
Pine Township-Templeton fire crews were called to assist in closing the roadway to vehicular traffic while investigators combed through the scene – which was near Bernard C. Snyder Picnic Area
The road was re-opened to motorists about 3:30AM.
