Kittanning Sex Offender Sentenced to Jail

A Kittanning man who pled guilty to corrupting a 15-year-old Ford City High female in April 2013 has been sentenced to incarceration.

Gregory Shaffer, 43 of Kittanning, pled guilty to the third-degree felony crime in February and was sentenced to serve up to three years in the Armstrong County Jail by Armstrong County Court of Common Pleas President Judge Kenneth Valasek.

Shaffer – who has been incarcerated in the Armstrong County Jail since June - will also serve two years of probation for concealing the whereabouts of the child when he told Pennsylvania State Police troopers he did not know where the teen was before he was found with the student in Indiana County.

Valasek followed the recommended sentencing of District Attorney Scott Andreassi in the case.

Public Defender Preston Younkins recommended Shaffer’s sentence involve house arrest due to ongoing health issues – including diabetes. Shaffer said he was hospitalized a few months ago, and Judge Valasek said the issue would be revisited if necessary.

Younkins pointed out that Shaffer was also incarcerated in April 2013 due to concealing the whereabouts of the aforementioned child and more than a month between June and July 2013 for corruption of minors. Shaffer has been incarcerated for a total of more than 370 days – which he received credit for during yesterday’s sentence.

Shaffer was also required to register under Megan’s Law for 15 years and is prohibited from any further contact with the defendant – who was not in the courtroom Tuesday morning.

Am I nuts or does three years sound a bit lenient?

I think rape rates a longer sentence.
