Two women were taken to a local hospital after a crash along the Kittanning Citizens Bridge late Friday night.
Kittanning Hose Company #1 Fire Chief Gene Stephens said the three-car accident – which was reported shortly after 11PM - was the result of a “chain reaction,” starting with the driver of a blue Grand Cherokee Laredo.
“It looked like that car was the one that didn’t have his vehicle under-control, hit a Jeep and then the Jeep went forward and hit a pick-up truck,” Chief Stephens said.
The other two vehicles involved were a black Jeep Wrangler and a purple Ford F-150 truck.
The Grand Cherokee Laredo was the only vehicle that had to be towed from the scene by Duncan’s Garage.
Kittanning #6 Ambulance responders transported the individuals to ACMH in East Franklin Township while Kittanning Borough and East Franklin Township police officers investigated the crash.
Firefighters did have to clean up antifreeze that leaked onto the pavement, but no other damage was reported.
The crash caused the bridge to be closed to traffic on both sides of the Allegheny River for about an hour.
Firefighters returned to their South Jefferson Street station a few minutes before midnight.
