Yatesboro Native and NFL Great Passes Away

Yatesboro native, Doug Buffone, a linebacker who played over a decade for the NFL’s Chicago Bears, died on Monday at the age of 70.

Buffone, who attended high school at Shannock Valley, played 14 seasons for the Bears making him tied for second most in franchise history. He achieved 100 tackles in seven seasons and racked up over 1,200 tackles in his career. His 24 interceptions remain the most in club history for a linebacker.
Buffone died in his Chicago home of natural causes.

In addition to being a business owner, Doug co-hosted a radio show in Chicago that focused on football, and the Bears in particular.

Doug’s nephew, John Buffone, a native of the the Rural Valley area, hosted a sports show on Family-Life TV and WTYM Radio, and wrote a sports column for the Kittanning Paper for several years. John often interacted with his uncle via the phone during his sports program.
