Free Manure Management Workshop Offered Thursday
In October 2011, the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (PA DEP) released the guidelines for farmers to develop their own manure management plans.
The guidelines were published in a manual titled Land Application of Manure. The manual helps farmers plan and record the application of manure as well as identify environmentally sensitive areas.
All farms that handle manure, regardless of size, are required to have a plan under Pennsylvania law. This includes operations that apply their own manure on their fields, apply manure from other farms, or have animals but do not apply manure on their land.
The plan can be written by anybody, and does not to be submitted for approval, but must be kept on the farm and available by request.
The Armstrong Conservation District is having a free workshop on Thursday, March 26 from 9AM-2PM to help Armstrong County farmers develop a Manure Management Plan (MMP).
Pre-registration h is required to attend this workshop due to the limited number of seats (20).
Prepaid soil test kits and MMP worksheet forms are available through the Armstrong Conservation District to develop a MMP.
