A Kittanning Junior High School athlete has won a wrestling championship.
Mayce Wonderling, 14, competed in the PAWF Pennsylvania Girls State Championship Sunday March 8 at the Susquehanna Township High School in Harrisburg. She was among 125 girl wrestlers from various elementary and high schools.
Mayce took 1st place in her middle school weight class 113lbs There were 5 other girls competing in her bracket.
In the 1st round, Mayce won by disqualified against Avia Bibeau of East Stroudsburg.
In the 2nd round, Mayce pinned Riley Stoner from Greensburg Salem in 5:36 minutes.
Going into the 3rd round, Mayce pinned Victoria Miller of Dragon Slayer in just 18 seconds.
In the 4th round, Mayce pinned Gianna Iadonisi of Penn ridge in 3:49 minutes.
In her final 5th round, Mayce won 10-0 against Diana Crookston of Fox Chapel.
Mace now goes to the United States Girls Wrestling Association National Competition on April 18 at American Canyon, California. She will be accompanied by her mother and father as well as her grandfather on the flight. Congratulations and good luck to Mayce.
