OBIT: Richard Karabin (Ford City)

Richard Karabin, 84, of Ford City, died Monday, March 16, 2015, in Armstrong County Health Center.

Born August 10, 1930, in Ford City, he was a son of the late Michael Karabin and Margaret Gusho Garabin.

He was married to Mary Ann Bartolovic Karabin, whom he married February 20, 1981.

Richard was the former owner and operator of Karabin’s Marina in Manorville.

Richard was a lifelong community member, a retired bricklayer for PPG Ford City and former president of the union.

A Korean War veteran, he served with the U.S. Air Force, and was stationed in Germany.

Richard was a member of Christ Prince of Peace Parish and formerly of Holy Trinity Church.

He was a life member of the Ford City VFW, a member of the Falcons and a beneficial member of Jednota, where he was their trustee for several years and the former president.

He enjoyed trap shooting and grouse hunting with his dog, Britney Dolly, as well as the serenity of living on the creek watching the wildlife and the activities along the creek.

Richard also enjoyed his gardening and especially raising Brandywine tomatoes.

In addition to his wife, Richard is also survived by his two sons: Michael Richard (Marlene) Karabin, of Ford City, and Vincent John Karabin, of Manorville; daughter, Alice (Chris) Yanoff, of Manorville; stepdaughter, Marcy (David) Post, of Baltimore, Maryland.; four grandchildren: Michelle Yanoff, Lauren Karabin, Natalie Yanoff and Jonathan Karabin; and sister, Mary Catherine (Frank) Panchik, of Lordestown, Ohio.

In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by an infant sister.

Friends will be received from 2-4 and 7-9PM tomorrow - Thursday, March 19, 2015 - at Mantini Funeral Home in Ford City.

A prayer service will be held at 9:30AM Friday, March 20, 2015 at the funeral home. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10AM in Christ Prince of Peace Parish.

Father Bryan Summers will be officiating

Interment will be in Holy Trinity Cemetery.
