Dominion Foundation $5,000 Donation Benefits County Food Bank

The Armstrong County Community Action Agency food bank will have some extra money for food, thanks to the Dominion Foundation.

Armstrong County Community Action Agency Director of Family Services Robin Rainey said a $5,000 donation was received in December

“We will be using it to help purchase food for the food bank,” Rainey said.

Residents who benefit from the food bank vary each month.

“That was a really nice donation,” Rainey added. “Sometimes, we get donations from anonymous sources, but a lot of companies let us know.

It’s exciting, because we need the money. We need the food.”

Dominion Foundation Senior Philanthropy Manager James Mesloh – based in Pittsburgh – said the foundation received a request for funding from Community Action last year and decided to donate

“Usually at the end of the year, we try and do grants across the state of Pennsylvania to food pantries and food banks,” Mesloh said. “We gave away about $50,000 to organizations altogether.”

Mesloh added that it was important to give back in Armstrong County because of the local operations, which initially ‘qualified’ Community Action.

“For the last several years, we made food bank grants a priority,” Mesloh said. “At the end of the year, we know a lot of people have to make the decision between paying the gas bill and feeding their families, so we want to be able to help out. That’s when a lot of these food programs really need help stocking the shelves.

“It was an easy grant to approve.”

Other recipients included the Greater Pittsburgh Food Bank, the Salvation Army and non-profit organizations in a total of 10 surrounding states.

Employees from Dominion Transmission made the check presentation.
