Snowfall Not Forecasted Until Weekend

After two days of snowfall, a majority of Armstrong County should only see cloudy skies through the rest of the work week.

Many motorists in the Kittanning/Ford City area as well as northern communities (receiving as many as six inches of snow) contended with slushy conditions and rising snow accumulations the past few days, and saw many Pennsylvania Department of Transportation salt and snow removal trucks, but the National Weather Service regional office in Pittsburgh (Moon Township) is forecasting only cloudy or mostly sunny skies through tomorrow evening to ease a driver’s commute.

All ARIN Intermediate Unit 28 school districts – including students in the Armstrong, Apollo-Ridge, Freeport and Leechburg Area schools in Armstrong County and eight districts in Indiana County- were open without delay today.

There are also no traffic accidents, according to PennDOT authorities.

Most of the snow already in yards or driveways will probably melt by Friday – when temperatures might eclipse 32 degrees.

The next chance of snow is forecasted for central Armstrong County Saturday afternoon, but “little or no snow accumulation” is expected as temperatures remain in the mid-30’s. Snow is also expected early Sunday afternoon and overnight, but also with little accumulation.

While a winter storm system will travel up the east coast, the exact track is still undetermined. Southeastern Pennsylvania counties are predicted to receive more accumulating snow than Armstrong County.

The next chance for accumulation is currently forecasted for Monday during snow showers and temperatures falling again below freezing.
