OBIT: Gertrude S. Stewart (Burrell Township)

Gertrude S. Stewart, 96, of Ford City (Burrell Township), died Thursday, November 20, 2014, in Good Samaritan Hospice, Cabot.

November 2, 1918 in Brick Church, Burrell Township, she was a daughter of the late Perrin B. and Ida Esther (Heilman) Slease.

Mrs. Stewart was a retired teacher, having taught in a one-room schoolhouse in Sugarcreek Township.

She was a member of St. Michael’s Lutheran Church, Brick Church.

She enjoyed maintaining the family homestead, raising chickens, gardening, canning, reading, and mowing her lawn.

Mrs. Stewart is survived by her son, Robert Stewart and his wife, Vange, of Leechburg; a granddaughter, Beth Stewart of Concord, OH; and a grandson, David Stewart of Greensboro, NC.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, David Allen Stewart; four sisters, Mae Strachan, Madge Bruce, Josephine Myers, and Louise Stewart; and a brother, Dr. C.B. Slease.
