OBIT: Oscar Earl Houser, Jr. (New Bethlehem)

Oscar Earl Houser, Jr., 93, of New Bethlehem, passed away Thursday, August 21, 2014, at Kittanning Care Center.

He was born June 22, 1921 in Wayne Township, the son of Oscar Earl Houser, Sr. and Anna Catherine (Kammerdiener) Houser.

He was self-employed as a coal stripper and was known for his exceptional work ethic, working up until two years ago.

Earl was a lifetime resident of the area and belonged to Concord Presbyterian Church.

Earl collected all kinds of interesting objects throughout his life and constantly tinkered with items, having the ability to fix anything.

He loved being outdoors, especially while working on the farm, hunting and fishing.

Earl was a 32nd degree Mason with the New Bethlehem Masonic Lodge #522 and also held memberships with the Shriners and Coudersport Consistory.

His memory will be cherished by his two sons: Oscar Earl “Bud” Houser, III, of New Bethlehem, and James Robert Houser and wife, Carol, of Dayton, Pa.; three daughters: Edith Catherine “Katie” Meador and husband, John, of Eminence, KY, Virginia Leona Marsh and husband, James, of Waterford, and Brenda Jean Moyer and husband, Carl, of Fairfield, Idaho; nine grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; loving wife of 52 years, Ethel Marie (Anthony) Houser, who died May 5, 1994; grandson, Jeffrey Marsh; brother, George Peter Houser; and three sisters: Katheryn Houser, Margaret Elizabeth Ward and Lavina Caroline Morgan.

Family and friends were received on Sunday, August 24, 2014 at the Bauer-Bly Funeral Home in Dayton. A funeral service was held on Monday, August 25, 2014 at the funeral home, with the Pastor David D. Murphy officiating. Burial was in Concord Cemetery, Dayton, Pa.
