OBIT: John R. Hawk (formerly of Elderton)
John R. Hawk, 83, of East Aurora, NY - formerly of Elderton - died Saturday, June 28, 2014 in East Aurora, NY.
He was born July 15, 1930 in Elderton - the son of John L. and Ruth E. (Rosborough) Hawk.
John was a 1948 graduate of Elderton High School. He honorably served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1947 to 1950. Upon returning from the U.S. Navy, John worked for Linde-Air for 34 years before retiring in 1985. John then, along with his wife Lois, co-managed the L & M Campgrounds in Penn Run, Pa.
John and Lois enjoyed the campground and their many friendships formed over the years. John was a member of Good Sam Camping Club, National Camping Travelers, Inc., Griffin Mills Presbyterian Church of West Falls, NY, Indiana VFW, Orchard Park, NY Masonic Lodge and the Coudersport Consistory. John enjoyed camping, hunting, fishing and spending winters in Port Charlotte, Fla.
He is survived by four sons: John R. Hawk, and wife, Sharon, James L. Hawk, Jerry R. Hawk and Marla, all of Shelocta, and Gary L. Hawk and wife, Lori, of Wareton, NJ; daughter, Janis C. Zittel and husband, Kenneth, of Springville, NY; sister, Arlene Fulton, of Mountain Home, Idaho; 18 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
John was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Lois V. (Henderson) Hawk, who died on May 15, 2002; and grandson, Garrett Zittel.
The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 7-9PM tomorrow - Wednesday, July 2, 2014 - at Clark Chapel of the Bauer Funeral Home in Elderton.
A Masonic Service will be held at 7PM.
Additional visitation will be from 10AM until the time of the funeral services at 11AM on Thursday, July 3, 2014, at the funeral home, with the Rev. Edward Gray officiating.
Burial will be held in Elderton Cemetery in Elderton.
