One woman was taken to a local hospital early this morning after her vehicle swerved off a local highway and into an embankment.

The woman has not been identified yet by Pennsylvania State Police troopers, but reportedly was experiencing dizziness as her blue Chevrolet Cavalier veered off State Route 422 near the intersection with Claypoole Road in Worthington Borough. Emergency crews were alerted to the incident by a passing motorist about midnight.

The woman was transported to ACMH via the nearby-West Hills exit by Kittanning #6 ambulance medical responders.

Worthington Borough Fire Chief Randy Bowser couldn’t determine if the lone occupant was traveling from Worthington or from Kittanning or if she was properly restrained. He said the woman didn’t seem to be physically injured at initial rescue, and didn’t give many details about the incident.

The right lane of Route 422 was blocked off by emergency crews for about an hour while the vehicle was towed out of the field by Bowser Towing of Worthington and the woman was evaluated.

East Franklin and Applewold volunteer firefighters were also dispatched to the scene, but were cancelled via Chief Bowser’s orders. About a half-dozen Worthington volunteer firefighters responded to the scene in the Borough ladder truck.

The vehicle went off the roadway in a corner where there was no guardrail, but had she traveled mere feet to her right, the driver could have suffered more injuries or her vehicle may have been damaged.
