OBIT: Charles R. “Charlie” Geer (Kittanning)
Charles R. “Charlie” Geer, 90, of Kittanning, passed away Monday, March 17, 2014 at ACMH.
He was born in Upper Burrell Township (Westmoreland County) on April 30, 1923, the son of John and Nellie (Mitchell) Geer.
Charlie honorably served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a private first class, earning three bronze stars as a combat veteran.
For over 30 years, he worked in maintenance at Parkwood Chicken Farm and was known for being able to fix just about anything.
Cars were Charlie’s favorite things to work on, and he also collected die-cast metal box cars. His large collection was a source of great pride, and he enjoyed showing it to people and telling them about the different cars. Charlie also enjoyed spending the winters in Bartow, Fla. with his wife, Thelma.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory his loving wife of 45 years, Thelma (Harmon) Geer; five sons: Charles “Chip” McManus, of Sandusky, Ohio, George E. Harmon and wife, Barb, of Escondido, Calif., Carl Elkin and wife, Linda, of Shelocta, Gerald Elkin, of Lakeland, Fla., and Tom Elkin, of Lakeland, Fla.; three daughters: Michelle Reithmiller, of Warren, Ohio, Linda Hudnall and husband, Les, of Maysville, West Virginia, and Tammy Leightley and husband, Rick, of Apollo; and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Relatives and friends may visit from 1-2 PM on Friday, March 21, 2014, at the Bauer Funeral Home in Kittanning.
Funeral services will immediately follow at 2PM with the Rev. John W. Snyder officiating.
Burial will be held in Lawn Haven Burial Estates in Worthington, where military honors will be presented by the American Legion Honor Guard.
