An old letter caused not only a domestic altercation in North Buffalo Township last night, but also an arrest by police in a neighboring municipality.

At about 8:20PM, Shane Hileman, 23 of Kittanning, allegedly found a letter written by his girlfriend (and mother of their three-month-old baby girl) to a friend while in prison.

The State Police report last night did not reveal details of the letter, but it caused a fight between the pair, which turned physical outside the North Buffalo Township residence when Hileman allegedly punched his girlfriend with a closed fist along the right side of her face.

Hileman then ran from the residence. When the victim went back inside to contact police troopers, she discovered $20 missing from her wallet.

Hileman was found about an hour-and-a-half later by Corporal Christopher Robbins and Trooper Andrew Andryka outside of his apartment in Kittanning Borough, and taken into custody without incident.

Kittanning Borough units were also on the lookout for Hileman during the investigation.

Shortly before midnight, Hileman was arraigned on charges of misdemeanor simple assault, misdemeanor theft and summary harassment by on-call District Magisterial Judge James Andring.

Court records indicate Hileman was sentenced to two years of probation stemming from an August 2011 simple assault he pled guilty to in April 2012, so the Armstrong County Probation Department has a detainer on Hileman and charged him with that misdemeanor offense.

Hileman is currently incarcerated in the Armstrong County Jail on $5,000 monetary bond.
